The Vulcan Pub, Cardiff is moving to St Fagans!

I'm probably the only person in the world to be excited about this....but I visit St Fagans National History Museum in Wales quite often.  They dismantle buildings of historical interest which face being demolished and rebuild them on the estate (and it's free...well worth a visit if you're into that sort of thing!)  When I was there a couple of weeks ago there was a display about an old Victorian pub which they are about to start rebuilding on the site - the Vulcan Pub in Cardiff.  It stuck in my head 'cos it seemed vaguely familiar and the name rang a bell even though it's rather unusual.

Watching series 4 yesterday it all came back to me.....it's the pub Adam follows the woman to after Annie has told him that Yvonne is a succubus!!  As I said.....I don't suppose anyone else is as excited as I am - but at least you might appreciate what I'm excited about!!!

Fifi, I love that museum - have had great fun taking coachloads of Americans there and letting them loose on Celtic roundhouses and Victorian terrace...don't know which they found more weird, really, because even the ones with Welsh roots couldn't really imagine the horrors of an outside lavvy and their recent ancestors actually using one!
Do you think the pub will have real beer when it's in its new home?

Wow! Good to see a bit of BH history being preserved! And it would fun if it did serve actual beer :)

Well Beamish, the smashing open air museum near Durham, has a period pub that's not only in working order but serve Sam Smith's - I say, if we don't get a firm commitment from St Fagans to do the thing properly, with actual beer, the BH community will sneak up in the night and Steal The Pub before it gets there. We can stash it in a secret location and make it our headquarters for future raids on significant locations...

Is this a plan or what?

Sounds like a plan to me!

My first thought when I saw that they'd got a pub was that I hoped it would be a proper, working pub.....seems a bit daft to bother if they aren't going to use it properly!  Somehow doubt they'll have a tv behind the bar, though....

Marigold - sorry to say that they haven't got the roundhouses anymore!  The guy who used to look after them (and sometimes lived there!) left a while ago, and they deteriorated pretty rapidly.  They have now been completely cleared.....it's a shame - I've always quite fancied living in a celtic roundhouse!

Nooooo! No roundhouses! If you'd told me they been razed to the ground by marauding archaeologists from another museum intent on re-creating inter-tribal unpleasantness, it might have been OK - but that they let them self-destruct through neglect is terrible. We must certainly intercept the Vulcan pub en route to its intended new home now - these lunatics couldn't organise a quick half in a saloon bar if you deliverd them an experienced pub to have it in. I am outraged!
