love seeing the genesis of Being human and Toby's vision - the characters were written as human before he turned them into supernaturals - Mitchell a recovering sex addict, Annie an agorophobic and George with anger /control issues
That whole thing, the men with sticks & ropes is such a strong image. Love the fact that Lord Toby plucked it out of thin air, it wasn't something he'd really thought about. Really nice that we finally got to see them too!
All the vamps in the Pilot are more "suave", or at least trying to be, more camp. Which surprises me since the original concept was humans with an addiction. Then in the Series proper they really seemed like humans with an addiction.
Thanks for that link timeandtide, it's interesting reading some of the comments about the recasting, some people obviously preferred the pilot as it was.

"I think that they'd say, 'it's probably best if you just stay in the canteen for the next five years'." Really like this scene of them in the pub, talking about Hogwarts!
It did need improving compared to the rest of the show but as far as pilot go, it wasn't bad. And I always thought that those who hadn't seen it didn't completely get the first episode.
I think watching it back now weve been spoiled with the brilliant new cast and so the pilot cast just dont compare! I did enjoy it though i can see why people petitioned to get it made into a complete series x

Being a vampire girl I probably would have been hooked by the concept if I'd seen the pilot first, but looking at it in hindsight, I found it very bland in comparison.
I do think I've been totally corrupted by how good the series was post pilot. Loved the transformation scene, apart from that I wasn't too impressed. But I am really biased now because obviously I love Aiden and Lenora!
Yes BH has a very original take on the afterlife, it's given this concrete form. The vampires in this pilot do seem very American (soz Whimsy) and don't really work for me. They somehow lack menace!

"Can you imagine the original male model hunk of a vampire working as a hospital porter? Would have looked ridiculous." Its a bloke and he's saying that pilot Mitchell better looking than the AT! WTF
