OK chaps! Here I am with the photo. So, if you remember the Kirby episode of series 4 (episode 4) he talks about Matchbox, the toy car maker, and he actually plays with a little car during the episode.
Well, this was how we first came to contact Tom Grieves. My OH, who you all know of, Trevor, bought a job lot of cars for our youngest daughter last year, not long after the series had finished. When they came through the post he was looking through them and said suddenly - "What date does it say underneath?" and handed me the car, upside down. Not only is it an authentic Matchbox car, but the date underneath is stamped "1975" - the year that the episode starts in!
And also, and quite obviously, Toyman is written down both sides of the car! This is the name that Kirby gave himself in the episode, when he was confessing to the murders of the five women.
Spooky or what? And no, neither Tom nor Toby own the same toy car! Tom said that maybe as a child of the 70's he could have owned it, but he certainly didn't remember. Subliminal and subconscious episode writing then?
We couldn't believe it when we saw it ourselves! I keep meaning to bring it to one of our Blog meet ups, but I always forget.

Tom wrote two of my favourite episodes - A Spectre Calls and Hold the Front Page.
I think his writing in both episodes was superb - the action flowed seamlessly, the dialogue was both funny and poignant - downright hilarious at times!
"He's my ..... boyfriend!" who can forget the look on Hal's face as he said that line?
And the "Likes a virgin!" "Also inaccurate, as I am a legendary swordsman!"
He is also a Very Nice Chap, who has replied to many of my aimless and rambling tweets directed at him over the course of the last year. We first contacted him regarding a Matchbox car which we have - I'll save that information for another post when I can work out how to put the photo on here! LOL - you all know how good my technical abilities are.
Tom has also written a book, Sleepwalkers, which was released last year. I found it easy to read and an intriguing story with a great twist near the end which I did NOT see coming at all. It gives a nod to several other novels/films of the criminal and mystery genre but easily stands alone as a great story. I would recommend it to anyone, and indeed bought my Dad his own copy for Christmas so that I didn't have to lend him mine!
Tom has another book coming out later in the year.
Feel free to add more Tom-ness here! And like I said I'll be back with the car thing later
