I think I'll go for the series 5 DVD, if the extra's are the same...what do you think of the cover of the box set? I think if gives the series a kind of gothic feel it didn't have - not really my cup of tea. Though I like the idea of both the original and later trinity on the cover, I think that background's all wrong.

So it seems we won't miss out if we just buy series 5? I've been wondering if there would be more stuff on the box set...

anyother - I agree entirely about the background for the box set. Not quite sure what it has to do with any of the series!

Yeah, I prefer the Season 5 cover to the one on the box set.  Maybe I'll just buy them separately since there isn't anything special about the box set. That way I can go ahead and re-watch seasons 1 - 4 to my heart's content until 5 is available in the US.

One of the things I liked about the show was that it had vampires in it but it wasn't gothy.  That is ironic considering I have spent the majority of my life in the goth subculture.  I just thought it was kind of refreshing.

Me neither, I hope Amazon's on time this time, or I'll be very impatient.

Last year, Amazon weren't very prompt (only a day or two late, but still!) so I've ordered direct from the BBC shop.
Anybody ordered from there before? Are they quick at delivering? *Bites nails with worry*

I've been too worried to pre order it! If it were late I wouldn't be able to cope so I'm just gonna go out and buy it on Monday....I've never ordered from the bbc shop but I think a few people have ordered from there this time! We shall see how deliveries go! Xx

I've also ordered my series 5 blu from the bbc shop (cancelled my amazon pre-order), as they claim you can be 'one of the first to own it' and 'we will despatch it to you once we receive stock from the publisher'. Hope they live up to that and it arrives by Friday!

I'm still confused as to that extra scene...is it only on the box set? Because the internet is not exactly of one mind on this ô.o

I think it's in the complete box set and the separate series 5 DVD Hun, they wouldn't be allowed to discriminate between the two.

I've succumbed and pre ordered from the bbc shop. It had better be here by Monday. I will lose my mind if twitter is buzzing with excitement and I can't join in! Lol x

I think you made the right choice there Su. Mine was shipped this morning. It'll be Monday at the latest. If it arrives by the weekend 'positively giddy' won't do it justice!

A couple of friends have opted to wait for the inevitable blu-ray screening (on the projector) chez moi and they keep bugging me about when it'll arrive. It's a totally different experience to iplayer and even the smeary hd broadcasts. I was bowled over by how good series 4 looked after they upgraded to the Arri Alexa camera. Pretty sure s5 was shot with that too.

As to the mysterious extra scene; I don't want to watch it until I've gone through all the eps again, as I don't want the rewatch to be coloured by whatever transpires, especially if seems all too final. On the other hand, I don't think I'll be able to resist..

So excited!

True.  Be glad you aren't here.  We'll have to wait a while. And I just spent a load of money having half of my dog's teeth extracted yesterday so I can't afford to buy the previous seasons like I had planned to do until I get that paid off.  Bummer. hmm

At least we have youtube.  I'm sure someone will post that final scene soon so I don't have to wait until summer.

I'm waiting patiently with you, 0positiv. My dvd box has the same barrier to cross. Sigh. And can't these Americans just buy a regionfree dvd player? I did the same for region 1 dvd's from the States, and they're actually quite cheap here (the player, not the dvd's + shipping unfortunately).

Well, I could buy a region free player but then I would not be able to loan them to friends or watch them outside of my home.

That is a problem of course, or you'd have to buy a small portable one. It's still a bother though, I have a regiofree player upstairs and a region 2 player in my livingroom and I keep forgetting that I can't play some dvd's there. Why on earth do there have to be different regions...

Jane, if you import the region 2 dvds you can play them with VLC on a laptop or computer (as long as it's not Apple). It's a free program, tiny filesize, disregards your PC's region setting and play will anything - totally above board too.

Edit - Apologies for the double post.

On a cursory glance of ep1 there's a music cue missing in the scene change between Alex saying "on the bright side you get to make a new rota" and Crumb's first line "not one name!". I hope this isn't going to be a series 1 scenario all over again.

For what it's worth, the transition plays fine without and it even somewhat lessens the initially jarring performance of Colin Hoult, who I always thought was slightly too broad.

That is a thought. I have a computer hooked to the TV and VLC is already on it.  I didn't realize VLC would play region 2 dvds. I guess I could buy region 2 now and buy region 1 later if I still want to.  I could afford that if I don't have to buy a player to watch it on. Thanks for the suggestion!  biggrin

Ah great. The region 2 set will also be in the proper 25fps that it was shot at, so no nasty interlacing, slowdown or pitch adjustment (not quite sure how they handle the conversion to NTSC).

As an aside, I reckon everyone should buy the complete boxset on blu, even if you haven't got a player or HDTV yet, just to be future-proofed ;)

You can get really good blu-ray players for 50 quid now, though it's much harder to work around region coding compared to dvd, so best should stick to your native zone.

All this region locking seems so backward in today's world.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.  It's barbaric in today's globally connected world that shows can't be broadcast globally (in some fashion) and disks are region locked.  Ridiculous.  I'm sure control and money play the largest part in that, not technology. I think in the end it will bite them in the a**.

Well, I'll be sticking with the Beeb shop from now on for all their stuff - very prompt service. Got a 10% off code for the next order too, which I'll probably save for Sherlock Series 3.

It's a couple of years since I tried it on a Macbook, but I don't think VLC can get around the region lock on a Mac drive. Apple are extra strict on this sort of stuff.

It's always worth looking up your dvd player online to see if there's a region crack. Many can be made multi-region friendly with a simple code input on the remote control. Or ready-modded players can be had pretty cheaply these days.

Upto ep 5 now on the blu-ray rewatch and it really looks gorgeous. The direction and lighting are much more moody and effective (and 'classic' Being Human) in the last 3 episodes - a joy to watch! I just wish I could take advantage of the 5.1 audio track -the first for the series - but, alas, no surround system.

Oh I do hate region locks!! But it's actually really easy to get past, as no DVD player is designed to stick to one region, it's just locked. All you need to do is search your exact DVD player model online for the region unlocking code, and instructions on how to do it. I use a fantastic site for this, here's the link - http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks. It's completely legal too, the region locks are only put there so the multi-millionaires or billionaires behind the movie and TV business can get even richer without people thinking about purchasing cheaper, faster foreign imports (such as Being Human UK in US).

Now that's sorted, about the DVD. Look at you lucky lot! I'm completely out of money so have to wait before I'll be able to get mine cry
