For those who are interested, he is also planning a Series 4 and 5 soundtrack and hopefully that should be released in the next few months.

In the meantime, keep enjoying his wonderful music that helped make Being Human so brilliant and atmospheric! biggrin

I can't tell you how overjoyed I am that they plan to release soundtracks for all the Series!!!! This show really did a spectacular job with their music.  one of the many reasons to mourn its cancellation. cry

Yes, that's brilliant!! I've got the Series 1&2 soundtrack, and have always been wondering if soundtracks would be released for the rest of the series. Really happy as I love the BH soundtrack!

I've already listened to it a couple of times and it is safe to say that it is truly beautiful work. In my opinion the best ones are 'Place Your Bets' and 'It Hurts' but each one is lovely in its own way. My eyes even started welling up when listening to 'You Made Me Human' (no prizes for guessing which scene that accompanies!)!

If you haven't already bought it, I really recommend it. :)

I also got a message from Mr Wells about the soundtrack. Really pleased he managed to get it released - seems like it was touch and go for a while!

It's really a masterpiece of TV scoring. He takes some of the raw materials and ideas from series 1&2 and develops them into something altogether more fluid and interconnected. Even the sound quality is heaps better and the synth is very nicely augmented with a greater number of real strings. A joy to listen to from start to finish.

Can't wait for 4&5 to get the same treatment! :)

Thanks for posting this Tree Hugger. Reading here that R wells was so pleased to get it released encouraged me to leave my first ever review - just so he knows how appreciated he is!
I've downloaded and it is even better than I remembered. I _loved_ hearing the heartbeat growing stronger and stronger through 'You Made Me Human' - really evocative scoring.
I'll stop gushing now...

No no, gush away! :)

I think Richard must have recorded some new instrumental layers for this release, as I could swear it sounds different to the series mix - all to the good because it elevates it to a whole new level and brings it more in line with what we heard in series 5.

I love the way the tracks are arranged so they create a web of musical connections all culminating in the intense 'You Made Me Human' and 'Age of Vampires'. That last track reminds me, did anyone else well up (even more) when the 'Wonderful Thing' theme reappeared in the final ep of series 5? It was so perfectly judged. Richard's music really gets right through to the emotional core of the show.

Tree! fantastic news, thanks for posting. I only said this evening that I hoped they would release the soundtrack to series 3, 4 and 5.... and then I came on here to read this!!! So excited. I love how much the music to series 5 added to the storylines. Especially the Halex scenes.... yippeee!

Some further thoughts after another listen:

- "Richard" is a delightfully slinky, depraved track. It amazes me how much character is packed in to such economical musical statements! Given the title, could there also be an element of self-portrait here?

- "Mitchell and Annie" contains the basis of the show's more general love/affection theme, which is stated with vocal accompaniment for Tom's dreams in series 4 (the shot of him putting the newspaper clipping of the ring on his wall comes to mind), so it also seems to represent the need to love and be loved rather than one particular relationship. It also comes into play for Hal and Alex if memory serves (only upto series 5 ep 3 on the rewatch!).

- "Gotcha" is a nice development of "Vampire Annihilation" from the previous soundtrack release with some great sounds that are a bit like prepared piano (blu-tack stuck on the strings). This 'jeopardy' theme recurs quite a few times in series 4 and 5 as Hal walks the knife-edge.

- One of the third series' true strokes of genius for me is the character of Graham, simultaneously commenting in a 'meta' way on obsessive fanboyism and foreshadowing Mitchell's own ultimate decision - "the story has to die". And sure enough Mr Wells employs the same swirling broken chords here as in the final two tracks. It's as though, even at this early stage, Mitchell feels the downward spiral and knows what his fate must be.

I really love the score to the show and was worried that we'd never get a soundtrack beyond S2. It was a wonderful surprise to see this thread and I just purchased the S3 soundtrack. Really looking forward to giving it a listen!

Does anyone know whether it's a digital-only release or if CD versions are planned?

Can't wait for S4 and S5 to be released! There's a piece that's played during some scenes (George's final scene, Tom putting up the newspaper clip of the ring in his room) throughout the last two series that I really love. Every time I hear it I feel peaceful and cautiously hopeful, but also a little sad. It's surprisingly powerful, given its short length.

Argentum, the soundtracks won't be released on CD because of cost. The series 3 one is EPIC

Oh, gotta love a soundtrack that does that!

How does You Made Me Human compare to A Wonderful Thing, on the first soundtrack album? That one really is (at the moment) my favourite from the soundtrack, and always makes me sad as we know who's death that music accompanied.

Sigh, if only I didn't have to save up for ridiculous car insurance prices, I'd already have this album!
